After waiting six years for Melody’s Echo Chamber’s second album Bon Voyage – a record which arrived in 2018 with a seeming tone of finality and farewell – fans have been blessed this year with not only a third record in the lovely Emotional Eternal, but now a second release that everyone knew existed but few expected to ever hear.
Melody Prochet’s 2012 self-titled debut was a splendid blend of shoegazey texture and psychedelic exploration, but some were quick to give producer Kevin Parker all the credit. He was again behind the boards when the pair began work on the follow-up in 2013, but after their romantic relationship ended, the professional one soon followed and, as Prochet explains,
“The album was fifty percent completed, and then the relationship just didn’t make it through the process. And then I tried to work on it on my own for a couple years, until I realised that I was just really hurting myself doing that.”

Having proven she’s just as brilliant without Parker’s help, it would have been understandable if those sessions never saw the light of day but with the 10th anniversary of the debut coming up, Prochet has opted to return to those unfinished recordings and release them as a seven-track mini-album both as a companion to the reissue of the first record and a standalone release called Unfold; both will be out September 30.
To introduce it, Melody’s Echo Chamber has released the title track of the release accompanied by a video with period-correct footage:
“To me this song captures the emotional ambivalence of a crossroad, like a child finding a special seashell hidden in the sand but the ocean’s creature still lives inside, I guess it’s the sound of releasing the beloved.”
