I got it in my head to go looking for a Beach House video to post, and besides the fact that they don’t have a lot of conventional, official videos, it took some digging and lo and behold I came across this clip from 2012’s Bloom that I had no idea existed, though apparently it was highly feted when it was released a decade ago. I guess I just wasn’t paying attention.
In any case, it’s certainly a big budget, star-powered affair – at least stars on the level of Ray Wise, who stars in the clip as well as my nightmares of watching Twin Peaks in the ’90s, and Eric Wareheim, who directed – and a far cry from the vague, arty “visualizations” that tends to accompany their singles these days. Said Wareheim, when the clip was released in March 2013:
Beach House, Ray Wise, fireworks, and horses. How can I go wrong? This is the first project that I’ve ever collaborated creatively with the band. Victoria’s imagery inspired me to create this special half time show. It also helps that Beach House is literally on my top 5 list of bands, ever.
Eric Wareheim
So there you go.
