Tokyo’s Cephalo released their debut EP Wind Surfing School back in May and immediately set themselves apart from most of their contemporaries with a decidedly darker aesthetic that embraces the goth as much as the shoegaze, and make excellent use of frontwoman Fuki’s breathy vocals, which conjure some serious magic when it gets into its higher, edgier registers.

Any of the five tracks from the release would be an excellent entry point to their sound, but I’ll go with「夜窓」, which translates to “Night Window”, because it’s got a killer chorus and slick video.

The band must agree, because they chose it to perform for the Blackboard One Cut Live / MTV Push Presents: Future Icon video series:
