Yuragi were kind of one-and-done with music videos for their latest album All Your Languages when they released the album-length mini-feature film for it back in January, but six months on, they’ve got some fresh content for your eyeballs in the form of a couple of beautifully-shot live clips from the their release show at Shibuya WWW in Tokyo back in mid-February. With the quality of the footage, one can only hope that more – or even all – of the show makes its way out at some point.
In addition to the new footage, now’s as good a time as any so share some interviews with the band circa the album release that I’ve been sitting on. Sensa talks to them about taking a new direction on the latest record and pleading “no contest” on the Portishead vibe crib on “Oppressed”:
People say that a lot, but actually, none of the band knew about Portishead (laughs). We like the raw, humid sound of prog, and that had a big influence on this song. When it finally took that form, none of the members even knew the word “trip hop”… (laughs). Of course, we had listened to Massive Attack, but we didn’t realize that it was a genre called “trip hop”. When we first performed this song live, someone said to us, “It sounds like Portishead!” and I was like, “What do you mean?” (laughs). When I looked it up, I was like, “Yeah, that’s true!” I honestly think, “It’s no wonder people say I was influenced by them.”
