New Order @ Hurrah, New York – September 1980

Joy Division never made it to America, but in September 1980, just four months after Ian Curtis’ death, the remaining members crossed the Atlantic to play shows under their new guise of New Order, showcasing almost all-new material. The New York show went down September 26 at Hurrah’s, in the Upper West Side, and remarkably the whole seven-song set was recorded on video by director Merrill Aldighieri.

It’s not clear if the set was ever bootlegged previously, but it was officially released as a part of the DVD content in the 2019 release Movement: The Definitive Edition and the internet, as it does, has uploaded it in its entirety upscaled to 1440p.

For her part, Aldigheieri has released New Order: Illustré, her own DVD of the performance as a director’s cut with commentary from Peter Hook. Of it, she says:

This film includes the full concert footage I shot originally on 3/4 inch U-Matic tape, with the sound from a stereo feed directly from the mixing board. The almost raw footage was included in the box set “MOVEMENT” in 2019. I have just finished my “director’s cut” version, the full concert with commentary by bass player Peter Hook and visual embellishment by a famous painter from the same region, L.S. Lowry. This will be a very limited edition artist release with an original handmade design on every disc.

Interestingly, I can’t find anything online about the DVD though the PayPal link works so presumably you could buy it if you wanted? The trailer on the site, including some of Hook’s commentary is two years old, for reference.
