Velocity Girl – “Sorry Again” @ The Black Cat, Washington D.C. – September 2023

Velocity Girl – “Sorry Again” @ The Black Cat, Washington D.C. – September 2023

Velocity Girl continued their slow and steady reunion today with their second archival release, an expanded and remastered version of their 1994 album ¡Simpatico!. Unlike the 2024 reissue of their debut Copacetic which was gussied up enough to earn the title UltraCopacetic, the new release only gets the Remastered and Expanded parenthetically and comes with the period-correct b-sides. I already have the “Sorry Again” single and the “Your Silent Face” 7″ so there’s not a lot new here, but the sonic brush up does sound good!

Interestingly, the band denied that a reissue was happening for the album as recently as Summer 2024. In conversation with First Revival, they said:

So I guess knowing that the other two records are also out of print can I ask if there is an official reissue campaign in the works?

Moore: Nothing has been discussed. We don’t have any plans for any of those records, although I would love for ¡Simpatico! at least to have a vinyl reissue. We don’t have the same amount of extra material from that period as with the Copacetic stuff. But we do have five tracks or something that we could append to that.

So I guess the Copacetic release went pretty well!

I already celebrated the opening track a few years ago – though the video appears to have been slapped with a copyright infringement – so this time I’ll post some live footage of the first salvo of the ongoing reunion, a show to celebrate The Black Cat in Washington, D.C.’s 30th anniversary in September 2023 and which I was lucky enough to attend.
