A little more Creation Records content to close out the week, from one of the label’s simultaneously bigger yet under-appreciated acts, The Boo Radleys. Their 1993 opus Giant Steps bridged 1991’s fuzz-drenched Everything’s Alright Forever and the chart-topping sunshine of 1995’s Wake Up!, and is often slotted as either shoegaze or Britpop. Both of which are valid, but don’t account for the band’s restless experimentalism or wanton disregard for the dogma of genre.
Fittingly, the record’s crowning moment – “Lazarus” – was released as a single twice, once as the album’s lead single in 1992 and again in 1994, along with a multitude of versions and remixes. Anyone else miss ponying up to collect UK import singles? Me neither.
A couple of different videos were commissioned, though somehow only a 1:15 version of the later video exists online? But we’ll get past that with a clip from their 1994 Glastonbury performance of the song.
