I guess bloggers grieve with content dumps. While I’ve been marking the passing of Tom Verlaine by constantly collecting and updating my memorial piece – if you’ve not been since Monday, there’s a lot more good stuff there, including tributes from Patti Smith and Dean Wareham – bootleg Tumblr Doom & Gloom From The Tomb made this Tom Verlaine week and shared up almost a work’s week worth of live recordings from Verlaine’s solo years.
There’s an instrumental 1997 set in New York with Jimmy Rip opening up for Sonic Youth, a London gig in 1990 behind The Wonder, a recording of the Frankfurt stop on the Flash Light tour in 1987, and finally a soundboard recording from The Roxy in West Hollywood, where he and his band played in October 1981, his very first solo tour for Dreamtime. And if you want more, their Tom Verlaine tag opens up far more aural treasures.
For my part, here’s an audio stream of a complete Verlaine show from April, 1987 in Torino, Italy on the aforementioned Flash Light tour.
