Montreal’s Bodywash are another in the seemingly bottomless reservoir of worthy dreampop bands coming out the city. The duo of Chris Steward and Rosie Long Decter offer up lovely, laid back dreampop that blends balearic beats with Loveless-friendly six string textures. Is chillgaze a thing?
Their debut Comforter came out in 2019, with “With Heat” and its mandatorily hazy video as one of the standout tracks. Their full band performance of the song at Paste magazine’s studios in September of that year is also worth a watch, just to see those same layers of sounds created by five people in a room.
The follow-up to Comforther – I Held The Shape While I Could – arrives digitally on April 14, and in physical form a month later. They’re also embarking on a Spring tour behind it this month, and I look forward to seeing them here at The Baby G with Toronto’s own Tallies, whom I’ve co-signed here in the past.
