I didn’t realize it’d been so long since we’d heard from Sweden’s Echo Ladies – pandemics do things to one’s perception of time – but it has been five years since their 2018 debut Pink Noise and saying it out loud, well that’s far too long.
So it’s great to hear them back with a new single, and to also hear that they’ve not reinvented themselves in the interim. Old school drum machine beats? Check. Simple yet effective synthesizer lines? Check. Jagged guitars? Check? Reverb on everything? Check and check.
The backstory to “Dirty Dancing” is offered as:
…about a dear friend of the band who was to become a parent, and how excited she was to meet her child. It’s also the song that changed the most during the recording session at Studio Sickan. The verse became the chorus, the bridge became the verse and so on.
Echo Ladies
There’s no word on the second album, but they do have a new home at Rama Lama Records who certainly seem keen to put it out, so more news is coming.
