Anglo-American dreampop duo Still Corners have returned with details of their sixth full-length: Dream Talk, with its so very on-the-nose artwork, will be out on April 5 and has been previewed with first single “Secret World”.
Frontwoman Tessa Murray describes the song as:
Sometimes the thought of someone, wanting to know them, get into their world is almost dangerous. The real person doesn’t matter anymore just the fantasy of what it would be like to be with them.

Sonically, it feels quite dry for a band that started out in lush, retro soundscapes, but doesn’t feel as dusty as 2020’s Americana-nodding The Last Exit. Commenting on what to expect from the new album as a whole, she said:
The genesis for a lot of these songs came from dreams. Every night I would write down the dreams I could remember. While recording I would pull out my book of dreams and sing over various looped phrases Greg had been working on. The repetitive nature of the looping and singing almost felt like going into a trance. A lot of the songs came from that process, it was fun and what I thought were sort of ramblings ended up surprising us with their various meanings and imagery.

I’ve found the band’s recent output to be a bit of a mixed bag as they dabble in different genres at the risk of losing their identity, but there’s usually a few shining moments on each record – enough to keep me interested, at least, if not effusive.
Update: They’ve just released a video for the song, so I’ll swap out the stream for the clip because everyone needs to know they really liked Avatar.
