I’m sure that the name of She’s Green is meant to elicit questions – who’s green? Okay, maybe just that one question. But another might be, why does everyone talk about Philadelphia and Austin as being the hotbeds of current American shoegaze when this five-piece is from Minneapolis? On their debut EP Wisteria, released last Summer, they take emotionally direct songwriting and frontwoman Zofia Smith’s crystalline vocals and wrap it in lush sonics reminiscent of the hazy sweep of Just For A Day-era Slowdive.
I had intended to just post a standout track, but honestly it’s too hard to pick just one. “Mandy” is heartbreaking beauty, while “Purple” and “Syndulla” are pure soaring majesty. So why not post it all? It’s barely 20 minutes in total, unless you press repeat. Which you will.
As a relatively new band, most press has centered around the “who are you, where do you come from” variety, but hey – you have to start somewhere.
