I don’t think anyone expected to wake up this morning to news of My Bloody Valentine’s return to live performance, but we live in interesting times. Typically, there’s no context provided for the event – currently a one-off show in Dublin next November – but considering it’s been six years since their last show, and 11 years since their last record, they’re certainly due for more activity than just testing if their gear still works – after all, Kevin Shields has said there’s more than a little nearly-completed material in the can. But it’s MBV, and nothing about them is typical.
So it’s kind of appropriate that despite their being a structural beam for everything this blog is built around – and easily my top traffic driver – I haven’t done any kind of meaningful post around them in years, having burnt up most of the evergreen content in the early days. But let’s remedy that just a little with some refreshed versions of old content.
To coincide with the analog remastered re-releases of Isn’t Anything and Loveless in 2022, the band also cleaned up their official videos, including the iconic clip for “Soon”. The song originally appeared as the opening track on their 1990 EP Glider, and reappeared as the closer of Loveless. So let’s bask in the glory of dancing Belinda, and ponder what other MBV activities 2025 will bring us.
