Five years on from the release of their 2021 self-titled debut, Hong Kong dreampoppers Lucid Express have announced details of their second album, Instant Comfort, out February 20 of next year. Despite the long gap, there wasn’t much doubt that new music would be coming from the five-piece eventually, as they’ve been busy over that time with international touring and steadily building their audience – I caught them this past April in Los Angeles while on a trip to see Hitsujibungaku play the room downstairs the night before. I’d say something like “it was a great double-header” but combining LA and baseball metaphors is still beyond my recovery.
They’re previewing the record with a new single, “Something Blue”, which is presented with the following bit of verbiage:
Infused with equal parts creeping melancholia and hopeful romanticism, the single finds singer Kim Ho reflecting on intimate moments shared with friends, lovers, and what-could-have-been, questioning what they really meant. The band’s soaring, bittersweet gaze-soaked rock carries this universal experience from their Hong Kong studio space to resonate worldwide—reflected in the accompanying visual featuring footage submitted by fans and friends across the globe holding something blue.
