Swedish dream-post-punks Makthaverskan are back with their first new record in four years, and if 2021’s For Alting seemed like they were taking their foot off the gas a little bit get a little more contemplative, new single “Pity Party” certainly implies they’ve had their little think and are ready to go full tilt again.
Of the song, the band tells Hymn:
It felt like a pretty obvious choice for the first single actually, and I think it represents the sound of the new album pretty well! It’s one of the songs that came together the fastest on the album, I think. We didn’t have to fiddle around with it too much. The lyrics are about being blinded by love. Caring so much about someone that you don’t notice when you lose yourself and your own values. When love is ultimately cold but still feels warmer than reality.

In the same interview, about what to expect from new album Glass And Bones – out on April 3 – they offer:
As mentioned, the fifth album is in the works. What’s new since the last one?
I don’t know if it’s really that much “new”. Makthaverskan has never tried to reinvent themselves and emerge in a completely new form just because they have to develop their sound, but rather looked inward and tried to find closer to the core of what we do together. It probably sounds more Makthaverskan than anything we’ve done before, simply!

All of Makthaverskan’s records to date have been an almost platonic ideal marriage of dreampop, post-punk, and indie-pop – definitely looking forward to the next outing.
