After years of being unsure if they were still a going concern, there’s been lots going on with The House Of Love of late – some bad, some good. There’s the North American tour that’s currently in limbo as the pandemic continues put a question mark over everything, there’s the new album A State Of Grace that was supposed to come out this Fall but clearly has not, and there’s the departure – again – of founding guitarist Terry Bickers.
But firmly in the “good” column is the band’s slowly working out the rights issues around their back catalog and bringing it all online at long last. There’s still some gaps in the online streaming catalog – whither Days Run Away? – but their YouTube channel is filling up with their official videos, most of which I’d never known existed let alone seen.
Says Guy Chadwick – whose regular Facebook updates are also an unequivocally good thing:
The first four were directed by Peter Scammel/State and represent the band faithfully and like the early photos have definitely stood the test of time. Unfortunately then our record company A&R man decided there had to be a girl in every video and cost £££££££ which we are still paying back today. Gripes aside the records sound good. Anyway give them a watch and have a laugh on us! This is my favourite

The clip in question is, “I Don’t Know Why I Love You”, the second single from their 1989 second self-titled record, aka Fontana, and seems to be an exercise in what you can do when you’ve only brought one long lens to the video shoot. And I don’t know what that foot shot is about.
