Robin Guthrie popped up on socials last week and offered an update on his happenings just on time for Bandcamp Friday,

OK, so, um, I have a bunch of new releases coming up in 2024, the first of which is at the factory getting manufactured right now. I’ll be the first to let you know, once I get some release dates.

Another dispatch on Facebook earlier this week offered a hint at what might be next in the Cocteau Twins reissue series, all of which sent me on a little Guthrie scavenger hunt – none of the piecemeal singles he’s put out over the past couple years are available to stream anywhere, just buy, if you were wondering – and I came up with this interesting piece at Bandcamp from late 2021.

In it, he offers his thoughts on his solo records from 2006’s Continental through Another Flower, his 2020 collaboration with the late Harold Budd, on the occasion of the release of his last proper solo album Pearldiving. I know it’s easy to brush off his 21st century work as aural wallpaper – goodness knows I’ve done it – but there’s no denying its beauty, and understanding some of the context of it does help.
