One of my favourite musical finds of the last few years, I would classify Copenhagen’s Lowly as “dreampop”, but reluctantly so. In fact I’ve spent a not-inconsiderable amount of time trying to find the words to justify it, but the right ones elude me… kind of like finding clear meaning in a dream that’s so intense and vivid it has to be real.
So I will attempt to articulate it over a few posts, but will start with maybe the most straightforward and rollicking song in their oeuvre, an early single compiled on the 2014 Japan-only Coal EP. As I get into the more elliptical tracks from their 2017 debut Heba and its follow-up in 2019 Hifalutin, hopefully I’ll do better. But for now.
