I confess to being a little disappointed when I realized this full performance from Magazine at Berlin’s Metropol in October 1980, broadcast on the Rockpalast television programme, was after John McGeoch’s departure from the band to join Siouxsie & The Banshees. Though to be fair, his short-term replacement Robin Simon’s post-punk bonafides are pretty impeccable as well, playing in both Ultravox and Visage (although only in the former before their synth-pop phase I’m so fond of, and only in the latter in their 2012 reunion incarnation). But he plays a McGeoch-correct Yamaha SG1000 so it’s cool.

Anyways, it’s still a solid hour of high-quality video (for a 40-year old TV rip) of classic tunes by an underappreciated post-punk giant. Unfamiliar with them? Check out this band primer from PopMatters in 2007:
