I’ve yet to go fully down the rabbit hole of Japanese shoegaze and dreampop as it is both vast and deep, but if and when I do, it will probably be Toyko quartet yuragi that leads me there. They won me over with their initial short-players – 2016’s Nightlife EP and 2018’s epic mini-album Still Dreaming, Still Deafening – and while 2021’s full-length debut Adroit It, But Still Soft (which was three minutes shorter than Dreaming, but whatever) didn’t have the same wallop, it had its share of epic moments.
They’ve just announced their second record – Here I Stand will be out April 5 – and have shared the title track, a characteristically expansive and emotive piece with roaring guitars and yearning vocals. And tasteful nudity. Love it.
