I always love it when Song Exploder turns its lens onto artists or songs that I love, so to have local heroes Alvvays featured on the podcast is a real treat. In this episode, Molly Rankin and Alec O’Hanley go way way back to the band’s origins and how they wrote one of their first – and now signature – songs, “Archie, Marry Me”.
It tracks the song from the first demo, recorded circa 2011 or so, through some early live versions to the sessions with Chad VanGaalen that ultimately appears on their 2014 self-titled debut even though they weren’t even officially a band through most of this time.
