Happy Valentine’s Day! Warpaint are celebrating their 20th anniversary as a band with this new song, being released as a 7″ – available now – and with an accompanying video that condenses the glitz and glamour of two decades spent on the road spreading gorgeous dreampop across the world down into four minutes. They describe it as:
Emotionally taking flight through Warpaint’s innate sense of wonderment, Common Blue marries an earthy groove with a fluttering melody that beguilingly evokes the ornate yet tender butterflies that enchant Warpaint’s single.

The physical release comes with a new b-side, “Underneath”, and that track is described as a song:
…which floats around an intoxicating acoustic riff with illusive emotions and fleeting feelings.

I’ll forgive the spelling mistake.
Included in the news around the release is that the band have re-signed with Rough Trade, their original label, for the release of this single. But assuming that that means more new music is imminent is… incorrect. In this accompanying interview with NME, Theresa Wayman and Jenny Lee Lindberg say their plans for this year, after a western US tour in May, are… nothing.
We’ve a tour coming up in May, we’re going to release this song and I feel like we’re probably going to take a little bit of a break. We don’t really have anything on the books for the summer. I think Emily’s going to work on some solo endeavours – it’s kind of ambiguous. We know for the foreseeable future we will be taking some time off, but it’s not like ‘oh, we’re taking a year off or two years off or three years’. After May we know that we won’t be doing anything.
