Transmissions: The Definitive Story – Joy Division / New Order

Transmissions: The Definitive Story – Joy Division / New Order

I certainly didn’t mean to make this a mini-theme week, but I’m not mad at it.

Big news today in the form of the announcement of the fourth instalment of New Order’s “Definitive” reissue series – Brotherhood: The Definitive Edition is out on November 22 and includes nine new tracks not previously included in any of the prior reissues of the record in addition to a slew of period-correct material that had previously seen the light of day. It all comes in a box set comprised of a single LP, two CDs, and two DVDs. Remember box sets? Remember physical media? Remember when you bought this album a dozen times already? Yes? Yes? No? Good.

But that was the lesser bit of New Order news for the day for me, at least. Most exciting is that the second season of the Transmissions: The Definitive Story podcast was back, and the first episode out today. I’m not a big podcast guy – I’d rather be listening to music than listening to people talk – but the first series of Transmissions, which is an oral history of the band through both Joy Division and New Order years by all relevant and interested parties, was a brilliant listen and I was genuinely dismayed when they ended the first run three years ago after covering the creation of “Blue Monday” in 1983; at the time, I didn’t see any plans to continue on, but thankfully they have, and the next batch of episodes should cover them through their imperial phase when they were one of the best and groundbreaking bands of the ’80s.

Will there be a season three, where they all fall out with each other and hate on one another? I guess we’ll find out if and when the Waiting For The Sirens’ Call: The Definitive Edition is announced in another decade.

In the meantime, listen to the teasers for seasons one and two, and head to whatever podcast app is your poison to binge.
