Favourites hereabouts since the Fall of 2024, Thai-gazers Slowwves came really close to taking the final spot on last year’s best-of list with their debut album. Perfect Evasion just missed the cut despite being an excellent collection of ’90s-slathered melancholy that inches pretty close to but stays on the right side of my grunge-gaze red line.

So it’s maybe notable that the band’s new single is for the album’s closing track. In the video, frontwoman Jill’s vocals float overtop visuals compiled from the band’s Japanese tour from last October (okay, it was two dates in Tokyo across two nights at venues 6 km apart but it counts), rendered in analog style for extra nostalgia, it showcases the band’s slower and more delicate side – at least until the halfway mark, because it’s shoegaze and you gotta step on those pedals some time. But a perfect set- and album-closer.
