And here we are with taste number two of The Cure’s forthcoming Songs Of A Lost World. “A Fragile Thing” is, as Robert Smith put it in a video interview clip reported on by NME:
“It’s the ‘love song’ of the album, but it’s not really a love song in the way that [1989’s] ‘Lovesong’ is a love song,” he began. “It’s about love and how love is the most enduring of emotions, I think.

The single release came with a tracklisting of the new record, and at just eight songs, along with the decidedly dry production aesthetic of the two songs released thus far, it feels like the band are consciously stepping back from some of the bloat of their last few studio albums.
The video interview with Smith from which the above quote came seems to be part of a full documentary on the new record which will probably be released in full – or at least all pieces of it – by the time the record is out on November 1, but for now the section about “A Fragile Thing” is available to watch via a fan’s Twitter account:
