Cocteau Twins – “Cico Buff”

Cocteau Twins – “Cico Buff”

I don’t use Spotify or TikTok but apparently Cocteau Twins’ song “Cico Buff” is now the most popular song in their catalog on the former thanks to the latter. In investigating this little bit of trivia, I learned a few other things about the song. One, it was never released as an official single from their 1988 album Blue Bell Knoll, but has been essentially treated as one, appearing on their 2000 compilation Stars & Topsoil.

And it also has a video that certainly looks like a promotional video but actually also is not. It was filmed specifically for broadcast on Channel 4’s show Wired, and it’s probably because of rights related to this that the clip was not amongst the rest of the Cocteaus video archive which was digitized and uploaded over the last few years – at least until last week, when it appeared in the YouTube feeds of everyone who’s ever watched a Cocteaus clip or 20 on the platform via the band’s official channel, any issues around it apparently having been sorted. So while there’s not much to see in the clip – literally – it’s now there to help stoke a new generation of fans and keep its place on the ol’ leaderboard.
