expect delay
As I was putting together posts to go along with the Mojave 3 reissues this Summer, I came across this video session that Neil Halstead did for French cinéma-vérité music documentarians La Blogothèque in June 2006 – a performance which isn’t listed on their website anymore, but still lives on their YouTube channel designated as […]
You may recall I said I was almost done with the Mojave 3 content, coinciding with the release of their reissues a couple weeks ago, and that’s because in the process of putting together my preceding posts, I found this set which I think warrants its own article. In my IG post from a few […]
Today’s release of the Mojave 3 reissues finally draws a line under that band’s tenure, and it’s a bittersweet moment. On one hand, it’s wonderful that these records are again in print and their existence should draw some attention from Slowdive’s new fans, but it’s also sad because there was a charm and magic in […]
So as my Mojave 3 reissue box set winds its way to me in the gentle collective embrace of the United States Postal Service and Canada Post, I have come to terms with the fact that the band, formerly on hiatus, have formally flipped that switch to disbanded and that there will be no more […]
It’s been a poorly kept secret for years now that there were Mojave 3 reissues coming from 4AD at some point, but details had been less than vague until recently. Back in April 4AD released a limited edition run of their 1995 debut Ask Me Tomorrow as part of the Rough Trade 50 reissue series, […]
Everyone knows Rachel Goswell from Slowdive. Some also know her from Mojave 3, her post-pre-Slowdive outfit with Neil Halstead. A few also know of her as a principal in indie-supergroup Minor Victories and also The Soft Cavalry, her project with husband Steve Clarke. But not many, it seems, know her as a solo artist, and […]
Every now and again, I’ll be reminded how much I loved Mojave 3 – as much as Slowdive, probably – and while this particular episode probably won’t be a full deep dive rabbit hole, it has yielded a video from 2000’s Excuses For Travelers that I’ve never seen. It’s studio footage interspersed with handycam footage […]
The Marvel Team-Up I didn’t know I needed… in the Spring of 1996, Lush toured the US with Mojave 3 on what they called the Sharing The Pavement tour in Spring of 1996. The pairing made sense from the perspective of them being 4AD labelmates as well as leading lights of shoegaze in past lives, […]
There’s not a lot of live footage of Mojave 3 out there, never mind a complete show, so this recording of their performance at the Benicàssim festival in Spain from August 2000 circa Excuses For Travelers, is really pure gold. it was recorded to VHS from a television broadcast on Spanish TV, and considering the […]
Simon Rowe’s shoegaze and dreampop credentials are unassailable, having been guitarist in both Chapterhouse and Mojave 3, and while it’s been some time since his guitar has been heard from, he’s preparing his solo debut Everybody’s Thinking for release at the very break of the new year, January 4, 2023. The official word on the […]
