Mojave 3 @ NOW Lounge, Toronto – September 2000

You may recall I said I was almost done with the Mojave 3 content, coinciding with the release of their reissues a couple weeks ago, and that’s because in the process of putting together my preceding posts, I found this set which I think warrants its own article.

In my IG post from a few weeks ago reminiscing about my own run of Mojave 3 shows, and sharing photos from a couple, I mentioned their September 30, 2000 show at The Horseshoe which I ran to after playing a show down the street. Well, they actually played another show in Toronto that afternoon at the NOW Lounge, in the lobby of the city’s then-great alt.weekly, NOW.

It was a nice space for an acoustic set in a building I would come to know well, as I would do an internship at the magazine the following year. The building, of course, is gone now – bulldozed to erect a university facility, and the publication is also long gone, though the marketing firm that bought the brand also inherited its archives and somehow, a lot of the articles are still online. And so it is that you can still read a review of the show by Toronto broadcaster/journalist Kim Hughes; it would have been great if the photos that originally accompanied the piece were also still available, but alas.

Mojave 3’s quiet quest @ NOW Toronto

And, as is mainly the point, you can also hear it. A recording of the eight-song set has been preserved online via and account for former fansite mojave3online.com, who actually have 34 recorded shows from the turn of the century available to hear. Archive.org doesn’t do embeds so you’ll have to click through like in olden times, but they do have a sweet Winamp skin that’ll trigger endorphins in the olds, and you can even download the audio in a wide range of audio formats from compressed to un. So have at it.
