Luna return to Toronto tonight for the first time in seven years, settling in at Lee’s Palace, the room I saw them in every time before they bid farewell almost 22 years ago. Post-reunion they’ve played bigger and smaller rooms, but returned to Lee’s for their last visit in 2019 and it just feels right. There’s (obviously) no new music to promote and no “plays in its entirety” angle to this tour, just a beloved veteran band hitting the road to hang with its fans. Sounds like a swell Monday night to me.

The algorithm recently reminded me that there existed a video for “Slash Your Times”, which I believe was the first promo video for the band – a trio at the time, with frontman Dean Wareham joined by Justin Harwood on bass and Stanley Demeski on drums – for their 1992 debut album Lunapark. It’s a remarkably clear digitization for a video that probably only existed on someone’s VHS tape somewhere for decades.
