I’m going a little cross-platform today, so for a bit of background on my relationship with Brooklyn’s Sea Ray and their 2003 album Stars At Noon you can head over to this Instagram post – at my main account, not the one for this site – and get a little acquainted.
Hereabouts, I’m going to look forward because in addition to celebrating the two-decade birthday of said record, the band have recorded at least a couple of new songs and have rolled them out in advance of today’s Stars re-release date and tomorrow night’s show. “Lashes” was released at the same time as the reunion plans were announced in October, and “Stripmine Skyline” followed a few weeks ago. About the new songs, the band said in a statement:
It’s rare to share an aesthetic shorthand with people that can withstand a twenty-year pause and it’s been so satisfying to make these new songs together, which sound as good or better than anything we’ve ever done.

but haven’t committed to any plans beyond tomorrow – in fact they said they will “go back into hibernation” – so let’s just enjoy what we’ve gotten.
