It remains a tragedy that the Lush reunion ended the way it did, when it started out so promisingly. Unlike their peers, they started out in the studio rather than the stage and had a new EP in Blind Spot ready to go, coming out just days after their first reunion gig in April 2016.
But for reasons that remain vague, the wheels fell off and by the time it all dissolved in November of that year, there was little footprint left besides the memories, just those four new songs on a single EP, and none of the band’s principals on speaking terms.
But three weeks before bassist Phil King announced his departure, during the second North American leg of the tour, the band played a session for Los Angeles radio station KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic, and not just a few songs – a full eight-song career-spanning mini-set. The entirety of the set is available to stream in audio from KCRW and was also released as a limited edition CD as a bonus for the now-defunct Thoughtforms magazine. There’s also an interview section in the session that certainly sounds like everything with the band was hunky-dory… alas.

The video of three of the songs is also available to watch. Of course, this also means that footage of the other five exists – maybe someday they will be made available, and that live album is reissued in a more attainable form.
