As recently as last November, when She’s Green came onto my radar, the Minneapolis five-piece looked to be another regional genre favourite, known to locals and a handful of subreddits. Now it looks like the word might be just a little more out, with their being attached to an international (well, two countries) tour with shoegaze buzz band Glixen and a brand new single which – if you look at the fine print on the streaming page – reveals they’re attached to Photo Finish Records which has distribution from Virgin, a Universal subsidiary. They’ve also announced it themselves, so sleuthing was unnecessary.
This is not playing “they’re a major label act!” – the days of that mattering are long gone – but more of an “ah”, as to why they’ve got the opportunity to bring their music across the country(s) and I get the opportunity to see them live at such an early juncture. Not a complaint! But I would imagine that warnings about getting into bed with major labels still apply…
In any case – their new song and video, which is probably a precursor to a first proper release – is here now. It’s a lush and shimmering and crashing introduction – and a gorgeous one, naturally – though the visuals might be a little on the nose (it’s a she! In the green forest!), they fit the tune and the genre.
The band also gave Paper Magazine a tour of their Minneapolis hot spots:
