It figures that a band that create as delicate, fragile, and internal-sounding dreampop as Detroit’s Clinic Stars don’t have a tremendous online presence – a Bandcamp, an Instagram, and a couple of shaky fan-shot live videos – but when they’ve already given us a record as beautiful as their 2024 full-length debut Only Hinting, asking for more seems gauche, somehow.
Clinic Stars follows a pretty well-established dreampop template of guy (Christian Molik) on guitars, girl (Giovanna Lenski) on keys and ethereal vocals, but for its familiar ingredients, the ghostly and cloud-like shimmer of Only Hinting feels surprisingly singular – you’ve heard it before, but you haven’t heard it like this.
Stereogum was on the case early, with a feature interview with the band last September just when the record was coming out, covering their origins and drawing inspiration from both nature and their hometown’s industrial landscapes

Music blog No More Workhorse also has a chat, albeit only a few questions long. Their note of never having played live outside Detroit is now out of date, however, as they ventured to Chicago last Fall and have some shows scheduled along the route from Detroit to New York at the end of May, and a jaunt up the 401 to Toronto in mid-June – don’t miss it!

As mentioned, they’ve no videos so just luxuriate in the title track from the record.
