Gang Of Four @ The Crystal Ballroom, Somerville – April 2025

As mentioned in today’s mothership ‘gram, Gang Of Four wrapped up their “Long Goodbye” tour this past weekend in Amsterdam, closing the book for good on the legendary post-punk band in all it’s incarnations. At the end of things was original singer Jon King and drummer Hugo Burnham, along with all-star ringers Gail Greenwood and Ted Leo on bass and guitar respectively, channelling the spirits of Dave Allen and Andy Gill, taking on the road their 1979 debut album Entertainment! in whole and a second set of hits and bangers.

There’s a few full show vids out there from the tour, but this one from Somerville, Massachusetts (aka the Boston stop of the tour) is exceptional despite being a single-cam, audience shot recording. First, the video and audio is great, and second, it features guest appearances from Roger Miller of Mission Of Burma and Tanya Donelly of Belly on “What We All Want” and “I Love A Man In Uniform”, respectively. Talk about your bona fides.

While the complete show vid comes courtesy of Boston’s ConcertsHub, there’s another set of clips from old school blogger buddy Bradley’s Almanac, from which the post pic also comes. Alt-tab your way to a multi-cam experience!

And to Gang Of Four, thank you and farewell.
