Attic Ocean – “Sun”

Non-Japanese shoegaze bands filming videos in Japan is now officially a thing, I guess. On Wednesday I shared one such clip from Toronto’s Neverminds, and today we’ve got one from Attic Ocean, who hail from Düsseldorf, Germany. It’s for the third taste of their forthcoming third EP I Promise I’ll Try Every Day, out next Friday, and with five of the six songs now available to stream, it looks to be another impressive indication about the state of the shoegazing European youth.

The video was directed by Shige Kosuke, who previously made another Japan-set video for the band for “Lilies and Sea” from their 2024 EP Retriever. But this one is set far from that Tokyo-set, twilit and neon-soaked clip, instead set on the Pacific coast of Inatori Hosono Kogen. It checks every box for wispy dreampop – analog cameras, grassy fields, majestic coastlines, sunny days, deep nostalgia – and matches the music’s reverberant jangle and stately pace perfectly. It is absolutely a vibe.
