Much is made of how much music is available on streaming services, but finding stuff there can be a nightmare. But sometimes you stumble across something great, even if you’re just searching for song names to match your toddler son’s favourite ancient statue.

There’s plenty of live Television shows out there, mostly from the band’s 1970s heyday, but very little from their 1992 reunion. There’s a good number of low quality video clips, as the band did a lot of promotion for their self-titled album (which I loved, btw), but quality live shows? Not so much. Except for this.

Live At The Academy NYC 12.4.92 began as a fan-recorded bootleg, and was eventually made official as a tour-only CDr sold during their 2003 tour. It’s taken from the second night of a two-night stand at The Academy in New York City’s Times Square. The recording includes the whole main set but leaves out the four-song encore (though bootlegs include it), and is offers good enough audio quality to appreciate just how potent the guitar interplay between Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd still was.

And as a bonus, there’s a full-length fan-shot video of the first night of their residency. It’s not dated, but comparing the audio, I’m pretty sure it’s a different performance from the one on record. So… enjoy!
