I’d thought I already posted the first of these Dry Cleaning studio sessions from Seattle’s KEXP, but no – those were other live sets, so let’s make this one a twofer. Or threefer, since I didn’t even know about the middle one. And they make a nice little pre-post-pandemic triptych, if “nice” can be used as an adjective for pandemics.

The first was recorded on March 10, 2020 when they were still very much an under-the-radar buzz band based on their Sweet Princess and Boundary Road Snacks and Drinks EPs and had played their first two North American shows in Brooklyn a few nights earlier. Did they jet out to Seattle just to record this set? In any case, the world shut down a week later so it’s just as well they got their frequent flyer points while they could.

Fast forward about a year, and while the band’s full-length debut New Long Leg is about to be one of the records of the year, the band can do pretty much nothing to promote it. Still, they’re able to set up at home and record a short set of the new material for KEXP. They did make it to Seattle on their New Long Leg tour later that year in November, but a station visit was not in the cards.

Finally, the band released album number two – Stumpwork – last October and were able to hit the road to properly support it, returning to Seattle this past January and visit KEXP’s twinkly studios again to show off their new tunes and also guitarist Tom Dowse’s new hair colour.
