Despite being perfectly timed to do so, I didn’t really participate in the initial wave of hype around the mid-aughts UK post-punk revival, and it remains one of my music blogger regrets because I would come to really love some of those records, not least among them the first Bloc Party record, 2004’s Silent Radar; dueling icepick-tone Fender Telecasters is sweet manna to my ears. But I wasn’t paying that much attention at the time, so the fact that some of their earlier buzz-building singles escaped my notice, including the 2005 non-album track “Two More Years”, which I didn’t even know existed.
It made its way onto streaming services today, as part of the band’s campaign to fill in all the holes in their online catalogs:
In 2024, we’ll also (finally!) be adding every song missing to all the streaming services during the year, it’s taken a long time for all the boring admin to get sorted, but by the end of next year we intend for every track, remix and EP to be live, starting with the ‘Little Thoughts’ EP – yes, including ‘Skeleton’, you can stop emailing, calling, texting, dming and commenting about it now 😉 Thanks for making this year so great. we’ll see you in South London next summer.
Bloc Party
Bloc Party confirm ‘Little Thoughts’ EP and “every song missing” will finally hit streaming @ NME
And while it showcases the band’s more romantic side rather than their razor-wire talents, it’s still a great tune from their peak era and – most importantly – new to me. The video has been online for ages, but if you didn’t know the song existed, as I didn’t, how would you find it? Don’t answer that.
