When I first started doing web development many many moons ago, Javascript was that annoying add-on that was super-picky about quotes and semicolons but was necessary for state-of-the-art tricks like rollovers and image swaps. Now, it’s the language that underpins pretty much everything on the web, that which keeps me employed, and more importantly, that which allows you to build browser-based synthesizers.

106.js has been around for a little while and is sadly no longer maintained, but as far as vintage-sounding synthesizers you can fire up in a Chrome tab and knock off quick ’80s covers at work. Based on the Roland Juno-106, it aims to recreate sounds used on tracks by the likes of CHVRCHES, Pet Shop Boys, Tame Impala, Depeche Mode, a-ha, Wham!, Madonna, etc.

And the source code is up on Github if you want to bring it back to life and use it as a starting point to get more vintage and make up your own Juno-60 emulator.
