2025 is barely two weeks into the new year and it’s already been a banner year for new music from shoegaze OGs, so that’ll be the running theme of the week. Swervedriver have stayed in the public eye what with the 99th Dream reissue and companion Doremi Faso Latido rarities comp coming out last year (physical release in a couple weeks, though), to say nothing of Adam Franklin’s solo release as Bolts Of Melody, Film Noir. So you might not have realized it’s been a half-decade since we got new music proper from the Swervies, namely 2018’s Future Ruins.
That changes on March 7 when they will put out The World’s Fair, a four-song EP recorded in part with Ride’s Mark Gardener and with producer-turned-YouTuber (but genuine Swervedriver superfan) Rick Beato. Says Franklin of the release:
We haven’t really done an EP since our days with Creation. I have no idea why it was the done thing back then, but it was a cool way to present your music with no sort of commitment to direction. You could just go off on one on any song if you wanted, and that’s what we wanted to do again here. I’ve always consumed music via singles anyway and was always partial to a good B-side or three.
Adam Franklin, Swervedriver
Swervedriver announce first record in five years (hear “Volume Control”) @ BrooklynVegan
“Volume Control” is the first preview of the release, and it’s classic Swervedriver. All of their post-reunion releases have been uniformly excellent, so there’s no surprise there, but it’s great to know that even with the time off they’re still 100% pure roaring cool.
