Glixen – “Unwind”

Glixen – “Unwind”

Arizona’s Glixen had a pretty big 2025, touring extensively around North America and hopping across the Atlantic for European dates in the Fall, and are not losing any momentum this year with an all-star tour of new American shoegaze bands, co-headlining with Trauma Ray and an undercard of Her New Knife and Knifeplay (I foresee many games of Knifey Spooney on the tour bus).

But if you were expecting they would have their debut full-length album out in time to coincide with all this activity, think again. In a new feature interview with NME about the band’s origins and where they’re headed, they reveal that they won’t begin recording it until after this tour, and their Japanese tour, and a UK festival appearance in June.

“I don’t want to put too much pressure on it,” Ritchie says. “These next songs are very Glixen already. There’s definitely a sensuality to the music, but then an ethereal quality as well. I just want to enjoy it in the moment and truly indulge in the fact that we’re going to be in the studio recording.”

“I feel like this next record is going to move us out of the box as just a shoegaze band,” adds Johnson. “It won’t be too far from that, but hopefully there’ll be a few elements that defy expectation and people [will be] surprised.” Santana echoes this: “We just let our imagination run wild in the studio, and there are so many possibilities. It will feel like the culmination of the last six years and the journey we’ve been on.”

Shoegaze revivalists Glixen are noise-rock giants in the making @ NME

But they’ve helped make that wait a little more palatable, they’ve offered up a new song today in “Unwind”, which finds them dropping the BPMs into slow jam territory and leaning into some glide guitar to sway alongside Aislinn Ritchie’s slinky vocals. There’s no video yet, although some posts on their IG certainly imply there are matching mood-setting visuals coming. So for now, just listen and use your imagination.
