As much as it delights me to live in a world where Slowdive are a constantly touring entity, I won’t pretend I’m not waiting for them to get off the road and back into the studio because, well, I live in a festival-less market so it’s highly unlikely they’ll be stamping their passports in Canada again until there’s a new record to promote. After all, they’ve been working Everything Is Alive for almost three years now.
But they can’t help that every market wants them to come play there. This April, they returned to China for just the second time and first since 2018 and played three dates – a festival in Xi’an, Shanghai, and Beijing. A full 4K fan-sh
ot video from that last show has emerged, and while it’s just a single phone, the sound and video quality is quite good and shots are varied. I’m guessing they had it mounted to some kind of rig to get it above the audience which is great for us, not so much for whoever was behind them. The poster actually details in the video description the equipment used for the recording and confirms he somehow snuck it all in past security so cheers to them. And he’s actually got two videos using the two different audio feeds, standard stereo and binaural so… listen and compare, I guess?
