Press Cycles: The Psychedelic Furs’ Made Of Rain

Press Cycles: The Psychedelic Furs’ Made Of Rain
The Psychedelic Furs by Matthew Reeve

30 years in the making, The Psychedelic FursMade Of Rain was one of two records locked into my 2020 year-end list when I began compiling it at the end of December. This is notable because prior to midway through the year, my Furs diet consisted of very occasional run-throughs of their All Of This And Nothing compilation and a vague fondness for the Love Spit Love’s – frontsiblngs Richard and Tim Butler’s ’90s post-Furs project – first record (“Am I Wrong” is an all-timer).

It was probably during one of those Nothing run-throughs that I noted that a) the May 2020 release date for Rain had been pushed back to the end of July and b) that three or four preview tracks from the record had already been released. So rather than “Love My Way”, I spun those and was floored. Grand, expansive, and weathered – like the marble statues that adorned the album art – I filled the time waiting for the album’s proper release with getting acquainted with their back catalog. Long story short, bought me a lot of Psychedelic Furs records this Summer.

And as befits a band of their longevity releasing a new album after almost three decades, they did a lot of press, which was good for me since I’d not read much or any of theirs in the past. Frontman Richard Butler took on the bulk of the interviews:

And finally, here’s the one proper (read: non-lyric) video from the record:
