And while I don’t want this site to become a, well, echo chamber for press releases, yesterday’s unexpected announcement of a third Melody’s Echo Chamber record is too good not to share. Considering the drama around the release of Bon Voyage, I half-expected that to be the last we heard from Melody Prochet for a while, at least.
But her third album Emotional Eternal was announced yesterday with an April 29 release date, along with a video for the first single, “Looking Backward”. The official statement on the record is:
I hope the record has that uplifting quality. I wanted to be more grounded and mindful through the process. I guided the sessions with simplicity—a contrast with the maximalism of Bon Voyage and the wilderness of my delusions. I made some big and impactful decisions and changes to my life. It took me to where it is peaceful, and I think the record reflects this. It’s more direct.

And on Facebook, she talked some about choosing this for the first single:
I chose ‘Looking Backward’ to be the first song released and it’s kind of great because the song was actually what you call Serendipity or a happy accident. Swahn sent me the original idea in a lost message but the music only revealed itself by coincidence much later while we were working on the album in Stockholm. All three of us were joyfully caught by the groove filled surprise. To me it sounds like a vivid, nonchalant, poetic walk to the Unknown.

I loved the trippiness of Bon Voyage but a slight return to the more direct pop of the self-titled debut would also be very welcome. Though honestly, anything from Melody’s Echo Chamber is very welcome.
