MEMORIALS – “Tramps!”

A new band with an impeccable pedigree, MEMORIALS is the duo of Matthew Sims – he of It Hugs Back and Wire – and Verity Sussman of Electrelane. Though the two had collaborated off the record for some time, their first officially released output comes in the form of soundtracks for a pair of documentary films – Women Against The Bomb by Sonia Gonzalez, and Tramps! by Toronto’s own Kevin Hegge. The two scores are being collected as the double-album Music For Film.

They’ve released a sample track from each soundtrack, and happily for fans of their day jobs, both exist within the pop song framework rather than atmospheric scores. Which isn’t to say they’re wholly representative, but it does make for a more enticing introduction.

The album is out May 12, and with regards to their artistic manifesto, the duo offer this:

The music we like and admire ranges from challenging to really tuneful, and we try to bring all that together in a way that sounds natural.
