Ride – “I Don’t Know Where It Comes From”

Ride – “I Don’t Know Where It Comes From”

My question last year of whether Ride would continue their back catalog remaster and reissue series to include the much-less beloved Carnival Of Light and Tarantula have been answered with a solid “yes” – new editions of the records will be out on August 4. There’s much less fanfare to be sure – an Instagram post, no press releases – and it’s unclear what “reworked and refined” means with respect to the audio of the new versions, but Tarantula, at least, comes with a shiny new orange sleeve and, um, there’s accompanying t-shirts if you want to proudly announce your devotion to the darker corners of the band’s discography.

There are no videos from Tarantula, the band having officially split shortly before its release, so I’ll go back to Carnival and the clip for album closer “I Don’t Know Where It Comes From”, the single edit of which wisely dials down the children’s choir but leans into some dodgy green screen visual effects. Ah, nineties.
