I’m still a little aggrieved that Mexico’s Mint Field canceled their US/Canadian tour back in January just a couple weeks after I rabbit-holed on the band, but I guess the upside is that it let me spend quality time with their 2018 debut Pasar de las Luces and last year’s Levitation Sessions.
They made good use of the extra time at home, though, announcing that they’ve completed their third studio album and will release Aprender a Ser on October 27. Lead track “El Suspiro Cambia Todo” – which translates to “The Sigh Changes Everything” packs a lot of hypnotic dreaminess into under two-and-a-half minutes, and according to the band, was intended to evoke the act of exhalation:
“Sighing is the desire for melancholy. It denotes that something is happening. Sometimes we just need to sigh to let go. Sighing is something we do unconsciously but it says a lot about what is going on inside our mind.”

Adds video director Rodrigo Pérez-Galicia,
“An exploration of the different stages of a single verb: ‘Suspiro’ or ‘Sigh’. It’s both physiological and a psychological reaction that applies in many emotional stages. It’s a punctuation mark for our train of thought. It marks a rhythm in our lively experience. We wanted to capture that feeling when our body demands a ‘sigh’” on the visuals.”

Maybe this record will see the band re-attempting that canceled tour. If I might suggest any time of the year besides January…
