Pale Saints – “Kinky Love”

I get the 30th anniversary re-release of Pale Saints‘ 1990 debut The Comforts Of Madness in 2020 because it was the band’s most celebrated work – of three albums total, sure – but that the follow-up, In Ribbons, would get the same treatment is a pleasant surprise. Well technically it’s a 31st anniversary release – In Ribbons came out March 1992 and the reissue hits stores October 6 – but I don’t think many fans will be nitpicking.

The double-disc set features a remaster of the original record and a second disc of demos, including for “Kinky Love”, a non-album Nancy Sinatra cover which first appeared on the Flesh Balloon EP in June 1991 as well as being released as a single. That one has lead vocals from Meriel Berham, but the original four-track demo has Ian Masters singing. Happily, both now have videos, the new one possibly with… newly recorded footage of Masters? I don’t know what that is.
