Fazerdaze’s return to active duty appears to be complete; following a post-Morningside retreat she took tentative steps back to music in 2022 with the Break! EP and a return to touring at home and abroad in 2023. This year, she committed to opening up the entirety of Pond’s North American tour this November, implying that she had something more in the works and indeed she does – she will be releasing her second album Soft Power on November 15, just a few days she rolls through Toronto on aforementioned tour. I hope her own tour is in the works because, well, not such a Pond fan.
She has shared a first video from the new record, but it’s not the first taste – “Bigger” came out last September but completely escaped my notice, so I’ll share it alongside “Cherry Pie” now. Though a lot has happened between her first record and this one – seven and a half years! – her songs still have that cozy, glow-in-the-dark star stickers on the bedroom ceiling vibe – she herself describes it as a “bedroom stadium record”.
Of the new song, she says:
‘Cherry Pie’ began as lyrics on my phone during my first overseas trip to LA almost ten years ag. Now, at 31, this song has journeyed with me through many different versions of myself. Frances and I crafted the video around a character who travels solo, letting go of what no longer serves her to finally take the wheel and steer into her next era

And of the album itself, she adds:
Welcome to Soft Power. This is what I created during the darkest, loneliest, most tumultuous years of my life—entering womanhood, navigating the world, the music industry, and what I thought was love. In my scariest moments, this album was my anchor for hope, purpose, and light. I am so relieved and content to finally share Soft Power with you.
