Yuck – “Get Away”

Yuck – “Get Away”

I surely would have gotten around to a “hey do you remember” post for Yuck at some point, but after last night, it may as well be now. Without doing an evidence board for it but having lived through it, the UK quartet were part of an ongoing wave of acts who discovered and were mainstreaming (or indie-streaming) the healing properties of shoegaze fuzz and pop melodies. Sonically, they were more Dinosaur Jr than My Bloody Valentine, but their 2011 self-titled debut struck a chord with the Big Muff and cardigan set and the band, barely out of their teens, toured the world on its back. And then, when the dust settled, frontman Daniel Blumberg quit the band.

The remaining members carried on without him for two more albums before calling it in 2021, but they never captured the moment like their debut did. Blumberg continued as a solo artist through the 2010s, releasing music as Oupa and Hebronix before turning to film scoring and, well, that’s worked out pretty well for him.

But hey, let’s go back to those early days and the video for the opening track from Yuck, as well as a couple of sessions from brands that used to mean something to folks like me.

And of course, a guitar cover ‘cuz I like those.
